Gaggle Vol. 16
Feat. picks from gold⭐️goose Bethany Paige Campbell!
Welcome back to another volume of the Gaggle. Very happy to bring you recommendations today from Bethany Paige Campbell, another fellow Substacker and musician whose single “Calm Before The Storm” is out TODAY! You can listen, purchase, download, stream, do all the things (which I highly suggest) here. Let’s get into Bethany’s picks!
I haven’t been reading physical books as much lately as I usually do, but I did just start Tropic Of Serpents by Marie Brennan. It’s the second book in the Natural History of Dragons series, a fantasy series written in a memoir style about a woman who studies dragons. It’s super fun and immersive!
Here on Substack, I’ve been reading a lot of Track Ten, Mustard's Diner, and any random posts on creativity and music that I can find.
I’m also on the hunt for a copy of the Jurassic Park novel.
For my dad’s birthday, my family went to the movies and saw Project Hail Mary. I’d read the book when it came out, so I was super excited to see the movie. It’s a little different and the book provides more context, but I absolutely loved it and have been watching edits of it nonstop since.
I never thought I’d be recommending something from the TikTok shop, but I just purchased from there for the first time and I love it: I got this flashlight looking thing with different inserts and color settings for photo shoots. I’ll be using it in a music video and photoshoot very soon, but I’m also super excited about it for future ideas.
I am a huge huge huge Jurassic Park fan! The whole franchise including the two kids spin off shows. I just finished rewatching the second of those shows. I’ve also been watching a lot of Jurassic Park edits on TikTok which might sound silly but they range from epic to spooky to sad to funny. This one is a classic:

I also watch a lot of Smosh on YouTube, Tiny Desk before a lot of my gigs, and I recently watched this deep dive on Seaworld Orlando’s Atlantis ride:
So so many things 😅 I listen to music like it’s my job and in some ways, it kind of is. Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of Avery Cochrane, Taylor Swift, Sydney Ross Mitchell, and Carol Ades. I’m also deeply obsessed with Noah Kahan’s new album and deeply unwell over it. He’s insane.
And then when it comes to my own music, I put together a reference playlist for me and my producers. It has all sorts of different things from Erin LeCount to Taylor Swift to songs from the Stranger Things Original Score. The vibe is catchy pop with a slightly unsettling side, lots of drama, and lots of synth.
Thanks again to Bethany! Don’t forget to stream and purchase her music and subscribe to their substack <333

Oh! Next time Mustard speaks with Bethany they need to ask her Jurassic Park related questions. Loved this! Honored to be something she is reading.
